Banner ad design is very important for you to understand if you are going to make your own banners for banner advertising. It’s important even if you aren’t going to design your own advertising banners. You need to be able to explain to the banner maker what size you want, colors and keywords plus fonts and graphics.

Good banner ad designs aren’t an accident, they are researched and tested and then improved upon until you have the best banner advertising you can have. Then you can make some money or get more traffic with your banner advertising.

When you come right down to it, after you have the banner colors, fonts, size, keywords and graphics figured out you could just as well make a banner yourself. It’s really not all that hard to do if you have a graphics program.

While I do almost all of my own banner design I sometimes hire someone to do a fancier banner ad than I can do. It’s rare that I do that as most banner advertising isn’t that hard to do and get a good CTR with the design. Don’t underestimate the need to test your designs if you want to get the highest CTR with your banners and ads.

If you’re in the business to make money you want to design banners that aren’t trick banners. It’s very important to making sales that the page your banner links to has what the banner implies. If you trick people into going to your sales page or site it’s not likely they will buy anything because they don’t trust your site.

Using wording that means one thing but implies another will harm your business and make your banner ads essentially worthless. One of the best examples of this practice is hyping some great software and having “Free Download” on the banner. What the banner designer means is you don’t have to pay to download the file. What the customer infers is that the software is free or at the very least has a free trial. Imagine the anger and irritation when they click the download link on the page and get immediately asked for their credit card. Oops, had a customer and now have an enemy.

Keep in mind when doing your banner ad design that what the customer infers from the words on the banner is what needs to be on the page when the customer gets there. If it’s not there it’s not a good banner ad and your advertising won’t do much to help you make money.

The lesson to all of this is that good banner ad design will make you a lot of money.
